From Ge\u2019Odef\u2019s tragic loss of his family at the hands of an invading species to his struggle against those same invaders, The Book of Ge\u2019Odef narrates the journey of a farmer turned warrior turned war hero. Other characters join the mix, including Enlia, a woman who is more than she appears to be, and who turns out to be far more important than Ge\u2019Odef expected. The invaders are peculiar, frightening, and shadowy in more ways than one. The author does a good job of giving us only necessary detail (so far, anyway) and maintaining the mystery, thus leaving us wanting more. Even chapters told from the invaders\u2019 side of the story hold to this, which I loved. For me, they were like movement in my peripheral vision that, when I turned to look more closely, was gone. Very well done.<\/p>\n
Overall, the story never really dives too deeply into character motivation or thought processes. Instead, the author focuses on the action, which rarely slows. Most of the narrative takes place in space, aboard a ship of one type or another, all driven toward eradication of this invader species, and for good reason. (No spoilers!) Some of the battle and military jargon were beyond me, but the context helped me to interpret.<\/p>\n
This is book one of a series and was a pretty quick read. I would classify it as military sci-fi\/space opera, but your mileage may vary. Definitely worth the read. I look forward to other novels and novellas in the series.<\/p>\n<\/body>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
