I don\u2019t usually read romances. Yet here I am reading my second romance in less than a month. It\u2019s all Author Ronnie Roberts\u2019s fault! She has hooked me with her characters. After the Party is definitely a romance, but since some of these characters have secret pasts, the story is also a mystery\/suspense. Sweet!<\/p>\n
The two main characters here are Laura, a sculptor who\u2019s working as an advertising executive in a big corporation, and Dean, an investigative journalist who uses\u2026um\u2026unorthodox means to get his story. But Dean has a secret passion he\u2019s shared with no one, and a secret obsession he\u2019s determined to pursue\u2014until his newfound friendship with Laura begins to make him question his goals.<\/p>\n
There are so many twists to this story! Just when I thought I knew what would happen next, the story took an unexpected turn. Even in the last few chapters, new information was revealed that made my jaw drop. I did not see that coming. The only constant was the sweetness, the touches of humanity, and the threads of environmental concern among the characters that I\u2019ve come to expect from this author.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s not to say that there is no darkness in these pages. The villains in this story are the kind you love to hate. It was easy to watch them fall and feel justifiably satisfied when they did. Roberts\u2019s main characters are strong, yet vulnerable; stubborn, yet yielding; adamant that they need no one, until they have to admit the truth. I like that about them.<\/p>\n
After the Party is classic escapist fare, filled with communities that love and support one another, the simple joys of family both born and found, salvation and redemption. I loved the hope that shines through every page and was happy to put aside real life worries and escape into Laura\u2019s and Dean\u2019s story for a while.<\/p>\n
If you enjoy a sweet, romantic suspense that will keep you reading past your bedtime, After the Party is definitely for you.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
