Violet’s in love (but with which brother?), and part of the prophecy—that prophecy she didn’t believe in at first—has been fulfilled. Now it’s up to Violet to do what she must to ensure the rest comes true, on the side of Light. Not all choices are easy, and this one is a doozy.

Overall, this book is a lot less tense than the first volume of the Light Thrower series. It follows Violet’s life after she makes her Big Decision, and only moments of Darkness are tossed in. Still, she is in hiding, and fearful of being found and stopped before she can see the prophecy through to the conclusion of her part in it. Given that, and the fact that the brothers and all the woo-woo (as she calls it) family mysteries are still in play, the story still kept me turning pages to see how it all came out. A new player, Amara Dawn, is introduced (no spoilers), bringing her own mystery and promise, and even though Violet is the main character, it’s really Amara Dawn at the center of the tale.

As in book 1, When Violet Took Flight has elements of romance, just not as much so. This one focused more on Violet making a new life, finding and learning to trust new friends, found family, and choices. I loved following along, seeing the way Violet’s choices affected others in her life as well as herself. The mysteries are there, just as in book 1, but a bit more spread out. Again, mostly all the conflicts are resolved by the end of the book, but there are a few dangling threads that will be carried over to the promised third volume, which is due out soon. Stay tuned to the author’s website to see when it comes out.

Overall, this is a good, easy, escapist read that will keep you turning pages to find out what happens. Recommended.

By allison keli © November 29, 2024, Meditating Squirrel Publishing File size: 23.2 MB 314 pages ASIN: B0DNWQB5CD This is the sequel to When Violet Got Bored and picks up sort of where that book left off.
