The Millay Colony for the Arts — (From their “About” page) Our mission is to nurture and promote the vitality of the arts by supporting artists with rural retreats and workshops, and to support students, our artists-to-be, with a range of free arts programs and mentorships. In all that we do, the goal is to encourage creative intensity and exploration and foster community among artists from every background and at every stage of their career. We welcome 6-7 visual artists, writers and composers each month between April and November. We offer a number of flexible residency formats. all including a private bedroom and studio as well as all meals. We welcome artists of all ages, from all cultures and communities, and in all stages of their career. We offer ample time to work in a gorgeous atmosphere, organizing everything an artist needs for maximum productivity. $37 application fee. Residents are responsible for their own transportation fees. Select candidates may qualify for scholarship with a monthly stipend.
Ucross Foundation — (From their “About” page) Founded in 1981 by Raymond Plank, the Ucross Foundation provides a rare gift in today’s world – uninterrupted time – along with work space and living accommodations, to competitively selected visual artists, writers, and composers. Individuals are not required to produce finished products while at Ucross, though many do. They are encouraged to experiment and explore. At any one time, eight to nine individuals working in different disciplines are in residence together for periods ranging from two to eight weeks. They experience an inspiring combination of solitude and community. There is expansive time for private work, as well as the opportunity for lively exchange at group dinners with fellow artists. Located in the High Plains of northeastern Wyoming. Some prepared meals delivered to your door; food for other self-prepared meals is provided. Resident is responsible for their own travel expenses. No charge for the residency; $40 nonrefundable application fee.
Willapa Bay AiR — (From their “About” page) Willapa Bay AiR, situated on 16 acres in coastal southwest Washington state, launched its residency program in March 2014. The Residency has been specifically designed, from the site selection to the architecturally specific building concepts, layouts, and materials, to combine the opportunity for solitude with the opportunity for daily community that fosters creative endeavor. We offer month-long, self-directed residencies to emerging and established artists, writers, scholars, singer/songwriters, and musical composers. The Residency provides lodging, meals, and work space, at no cost, to six residents each month from March 1 through September 30 of the year. Applications are evaluated by selection committees comprised of working artists and professionals in the applicants’ respective fields of discipline. $30 application fee. Resident is responsible for their own travel expenses. A deposit of $100 is required to confirm residency, but deposit is refunded upon arrival.
